Description
A large shrub or small understory tree. Features drooping clusters of bell-shaped, white flowers which appear along the branches, along with the foliage. Four-winged, brownish, nut-like fruits appear in the fall and often persist well into the winter. Dull, finely toothed, dark yellowish-green leaves turn yellow in fall, but may drop rather early. Bark adds winter interest with its contrasting striations.
‘Jersey Bell’ is an upright cultivar that can be easily maintained as a tree form.
Prefers moist, organically rich soils in part shade.
