Description
Viburnum lentago is a multi-stemmed, upright shrub with semi-arching branches. May spread by suckering but may also be grown as a small single-trunk tree. Provides color throughout the year with white flower clusters in spring, dense dark-green summer foliage, wine-red fall color and blue-black berries which persist through winter. Adaptable to most soils except very wet. Blooms on old wood. Attracts birds, butterflies and is a larval host for the Spring azure. Nannyberry has “perfect” flowers – flowers with both male and female parts. They are self-infertile and cross pollination is needed for reliable fruit production. Two or three shrubs are recommended for ample fruiting. Height: 14-16 ft. Spread: 6-12 ft. Growth rate: Fast, at 2-2.5 ft per year Family: Adoxaceae Bloom time: May Sun: full sun to part shade Water: medium Deer resistant
