Description

Rosa palustris is a gracefully arching native swamp rose, with rosy pink blossoms that have a mild scent. The stems are thorny. A great alternative once you rid your property of the non-native multiflora rose! (Rosa blanda, a nearly thorn-less variety, is a great alternative as well, although R. blanda does prefer a drier site than R. palustris. See separate plant entry for Rosa blanda, which is in our 2022 inventory.) A fairly adaptable plant. Best flowering and disease resistance generally occur in full sun, but it will tolerates light shade. Plants will not grow in standing water but will tolerate some seasonal flooding. Grows in medium moisture as well – great for a rain garden! Prune as needed in late winter. Spreads slowly by suckers. Height: 3-6 ft. Spread: 3-6 ft.
