Description
Hut 2 Ninebark is an upright, fast-growing, spreading shrub with arching branches – an excellent native shrub for year-round interest! White spiraea-like flowers are followed by attractive and persistent red fruit pods (aging to brown). Yellow fall color. Exfoliating bark peels in strips to reveal several layers of reddish to light brown inner bark (thus the common name). Tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions. Appreciates afternoon shade. Prune as needed immediately after bloom and no later than mid-August. Attracts birds and bees. Summer Wine® ninebark has dark purple foliage, and was determined to have the best mildew resistance of all dark-leaf ninebarks. The dark foliage provides a striking backdrop for the white flowers clusters appearing in spring. Height: 5-8 ft. Spread: 5-8 ft.
