Description
Hut 3
Purple chokeberry is considered to be a natural hybrid between Aronia melanocarpa and Aronia arbutifolia. A multi-stemmed, large shrub with clusters of white to pink-tinged flowers, and green, glossy leaves that turn shades of wine red in the fall. The berries ripen during the fall, and the purple fruits may be present throughout the winter.
Attracts bees.
A. prunifolia tends to sucker and may form thickets. It has a wide range of soil tolerance, and is an excellent choice for massing in low, wet areas in the landscape. Best fruit production usually occurs in full sun.
