Description
Juncus effusus is a true rush. The soft, grass-like stems of this wetland plant are in clumps and each bears clusters of very small, greenish-brown, scaly flowers. Grows happily in standing water to 4” deep, but also grows well in garden soils with consistent moisture. Spreads by rhizomes and self-seeding. Rhizomatous spread may be controlled, if desired, by growing this plant in large containers sunk in the ground. Attracts birds. Height: 2-4 ft. Spread: 2-4 ft. Family: Juncaceae Bloom time: June to August Sun: full sun Water: wet Rain garden Deer resistant photo credit: Agnieszka Kwiecień, Nova
