Description
A hot new lavender that conquers many of the problems often found in lavenders: it tolerates the extremes of both cold and heat without dying back and is resistant to common root and foliar diseases.
‘Phenomenal’ truly is phenomenal! It is a very large hedging lavender that can be used to create a border around the garden, and can also be grown as a cut and dried flower for potpourri and culinary uses. It forms a uniform, dense mound of silvery green foliage topped with tall wands of rich lavender purple.
Relatively fast growth rate. Harvest time occurs from late June to early July but the exact date differs depending on the weather conditions.
Attracts butterflies and bees.
Prefers a light, sandy soil with somewhat low fertility. Well-drained soils are required, particularly in winter. Deadhead to promote rebloom. Prune back to 8” every 3 years in spring to control plant size and to promote robust, new growth.
