Description
Nodding, puffy, heart-shaped lockets of rose-pink flowers with protruding white inner petals bloom before the leaves emerge. Flowers dangle downward beneath long, delicately arching stems. Green fern-like foliage yellows and drops by mid-summer after blooming as this plant ususally goes dormant during the summer. If kept well-watered in the spring, dormancy may be delayed until late summer or early fall. Prefers moist, humusy soils in part shade. Intolerant of wet soils in winter and dry soils in summer. May self-seed in optimum growing conditions. Height: 2-3 ft. Spread: 1.5-2.5 ft. Family: Papaveraceae Bloom time: April to May Sun: part shade to full shade Water: medium Deer and rabbit resistant photo credit: Wuzur
