Description
**Please note: as of right now, unfortunately S. virginica will not be for sale in 2023.** Fire-pink is a weak-stemmed, clump-former with clusters of scarlet, tubular flowers and long, narrow, opposite leaves. Five petals flare out from the flowers’ tubular bases, and each petal is notched into two, sharp-pointed lobes. Individual plants are short-lived (approx. three years), so allow to self-seed to maintain a presence in the garden. It will self-seed successfully on open soil. Attracts butterflies, hummingbirds and birds – well worth the attempt to make it happy in your garden! Plants prefer sunny sites in sandy or gravelly soils or in light loams with some part afternoon shade. Excellent drainage is essential. Plants perform well on shaded rocky ledges. Height: 1-1.5 ft.
