Maryland Senna offers racemes of bright yellow, pea-like flowers clustered atop unbranched stems. Chocolate brown anthers are quite prominent and striking against the yellow petals. Flowers give way to pendant, pea-like seed pods which turn black in fall and persist on the plant. Feathery, compound, locust-like, blue-green leaves. Attracts birds. Special value to bumblebees.
