Description
Daisy-like, 3 inch, yellow flowers with dark brownish-purple, shiny center disks on branched stems. The flowers faintly smell of anise, hence the common name of sweet coneflower. Leaves have a soft fuzzy texture. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage additional bloom. Special value to native bees. Easy to grow. Tall stalks may require some support, especially if the plant is grown in a shady area or given too much water or fertilizer. Often used as a permanent species to follow behind the shorter-lived black-eyed Susan. Height: 3-5 ft. Spread: 1-2 ft.
