Description
A graceful, marginal aquatic plant similar to the garden iris, with tall sword-like leaves. Flowering stalks rise from the clump of leaves in late spring. Flowers are commonly violet-blue with bold purple veining (but may be any shade of purple) and are always decorated with yellow and white on the falls (sepals). Petals and sepals spread out flat, making an attractive feeding place for hummingbirds and beetles. May be grown in up to 2-4” of shallow standing water. Will naturalize in optimum growing conditions via tough, creeping rhizomes. Height: 2-2.5 ft. Spread: 2-2.5 ft.
