Description
Soft, downy hairs cover the stems and leaves, resulting in a blueish-gray-green ashy appearance, thus the common name. Classic sunflower flower head. Prefers poor, drier soils but will do well in nutrient-rich medium soils, too. Needs well-draining soil. Spreads by rhizomes and self-seeding to form colonies. Attracts birds and special value to native bees. Leave standing over winter to feed those gorgeous goldfinches! Height: 2-4 ft. Spread: 1-3 ft.
