Spindle-shaped seed pods split open to release silky-haired seeds. Although in the milkweed family, stems do not exude toxic milky sap when cut. Prefers lean, poor, dry soils. Drought tolerant. Does not transplant well due to its deep taproot. Special value to native bees, supports beneficial insects, and larval host plant for Monarch butterflies. Height: 1-2.5 ft. Spread: 1-1.5 ft.
