Description
Stout, erect plant. Large. medium green leaves and fragrant, showy spheres of pinkish-white flowers. Similar in appearance to A. syriaca (and may hybridize with) but is slightly smaller; smoother stems, leaves and seedpods; and spreads less aggressively. Drought tolerant. Smooth seed pods split open to release silky-haired seeds. Stems exude a toxic milky sap when cut. Special value to native bees, supports beneficial insects, and larval host plant for Monarch butterflies. Height: 2-3 ft. Spread: 1-1.5 ft.
