Description
Fragrant bottlebrush flowers dance above the bronze purple, moderately glossy foliage with red tinting. They are a rich mauve-pink color when they open and lighten to white as they age. Actaea is a wonderfully lacy, airy backdrop in the garden. It is especially attractive when combined with variegated or yellow foliage. Performs best in rich, fertile, humusy, evenly moist but well-drained soils. Some direct sunlight is required to draw out the purple coloration in the foliage. Needs consistent moisture. A slow-to-establish plant which, if left undisturbed in optimum growing conditions, can slowly naturalize. Height: 3-4 ft. Spread: 2.5-3 ft. Family: Ranunculaceae Bloom time: August to September Sun: part shade to full shade Water: medium Naturalize Deer resistance photo credit: Walters Gardens
