Description
One of the few ornamental grasses that grows well in shade – move over Japanese forest grass! The basal foliage clump of this cool-season grass forms a dense tussock. Very fine-textured flower stalks. Loose, open panicle of tiny, variably-colored flowers (tones of gold, silver, purple and green) which form a cloud over the foliage, and bleach with age. Semi-evergreen in mild winters.
Prefers moist, organically rich soils. May self-seed but not aggressively (despite the fact that you may want it to!). Please leave standing over winter to support our native wildlife.
